Well, i have this conversation with my friend earlier today, and i think i would love to see what's the rarest unicorn you guys ever seen. So, What is the rarest car you ever seen?
Me? I should go with M3 GTS that i saw in a BMW Dealership when i accompany my ex to get her BMW 120i a loooooooooong time ago. In Indonesia this thing cost 400k USD back then, and i'm pretty sure quite a lot of that 400k price tag is dealership markup, but eventually it's sold. For a comparasion a fully optioned M5 from the same era cost about 220k in here.
So, how about yours?

Probably Ariel Atom. Seen one on the road and drove one on the track.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:05 |

That's awesome! The only track car i ever seen was BAC Mono.
For the rarest i ever driven is the E30 M3 Convertible. 1 out of 700-something.

I went to the Ferrari Factory and Lamborghini Factory when I was living in Europe, so all that good stuff, rarest I've seen on the road was a Zonda something or other in Italy.

Saw a blue Z12 Zagato at Cars and Coffee on multiple occasions. SEXAAAY.

Do car shows count? If yes, then this Veyron Idon'tknowwhatspecialedition.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:07 |

Pick one haha the Zonda Cinque is one of 5. The blue car is a Gemballa Mirage GT.

I haven't saw that one yet!

Daaaaaaaaaamn. I don't know you can visit Ferrari factory!
That would make one hell of a gift for my father.

Not sure it's a unicorn, but I spotted a McLaren MP4-12C, in black, downtown Montreal in weekday rush hour traffic. I was so surprised I forgot to take a picture.

I once saw a clean Supra.
Yeah, that's right. They exist.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:10 |

I've seen a Z8 too. My favorite BMW Z-cars.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:10 |

I think that would have to be the Kaiser Darrin. Only 435 built … in 1954.
EDIT: Thats a total lie, I saw a Reventon this summer. Only 2o of those made.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:11 |

Maybe the Bugatti Atlantic at a Concours several years ago.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:11 |

The BAC Mono is an excellent looking thing. I love those kinds of stripped down track cars, nothing beats them for pure fun.
Man I'd love to drive an e30 m3, must sound great with the top down. In fact I've never driven any BMW, I'll have to change that some day.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:11 |

I've seen a veyron in Dubai, a standard 16.4, but i think the M3 is rarer so i go with M3.
12/21/2014 at 17:12 |

Mercedes 300SEL ''Red pig'' or ''Waxenberger''. 5 ever made and only one original example survives. This is the exact car I've seen.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:12 |

its a toss up between the local f40/lm-002. not sure how rare an slr is, but I've sat in that one. Utah, who knew?

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. That's awesome!

I've been to Goodwood. Saw many, many one of a kind historic cars.

They give tours of the museums and stuff and they have all sorts of crazy Ferraris on display.

The mustang looks quite big. How big is it?
I never saw a Mustang in real life..
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:14 |

A Saab 9-5 Sportcombi, I saw it very briefly on the road so I could not tell if it was a medium-rare 1st generation or an extremely rare (18 built) 2nd generation. From what of it that I could see it looked like a second generation, but that is rather unlikely that it was.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:15 |

I think it's LM002, never saw those..
There's thousands of SLR if i remember correctly.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:17 |

probably an R63 AMG.
I had to rub my eyes just to make sure
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:18 |
|
Well, a guy in mrs aya's apartment had one, i took a picture of it today. I'll go take a better picture of it tommorow, if it stays there.
Yeah, it was awesome. It handles surprisingly well for a 23 year-old convertible.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:18 |

1950 Ferrari 166MM #22 of 29 built.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:25 |

I always thought reventon looks like a concept car.

Counting auto shows, the Shelby Daytona Cobra coupe (6 made). On road, the P1. (375)

Yes, this specific one was never raced but it is a real GT40.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:25 |

saab 9-7X.

This is a difficult question to answer. I think most exotics are usually around 5000 built, but I've seen a couple Ferraris and Lamborghinis on the road up here. In terms of actually seen in the wild, both of my cars aren't particularly rare or collectible, but they aren't seen all that often... a '91 Jeep Comanche and a '96 Lada Niva. There were far fewer Comanches built, but there were more sold in this market. I've seen a dozen or so other Comanches on the road, but only two or three Nivas... and I've had my eye out for Ladas for a much longer time.
Other rare cars I've seen? A LaForza, a Renault 4 (rare in this market... like the Lada) in the last year.
Thinking about it more, I've seen the only Galt gas-electric in existence, one of only two built. It wasn't spotted in the wild and is only valuable from a historical standpoint, but that's very definitely the rarest car I've seen in person.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:30 |

I.... never saw a Mondeo as well.
How about compared with E-Class Coupe?

Maserati MC12. Saw it a couple years ago at the Ottawa Ferrari festival.

In the Canadian Car Museum they have a few extremely rare cars. On that sticks out was a 1 of 7 (either made or remaining) McLaughlin Buick from the early 1900s. It was pretty cool. They had a 1926 bugatti type 37s (i think) as well.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:31 |

Probably this F40 in Tacoma, WA
.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:31 |

The Maserati dealer down the road from my house had one in their showroom for a few days. Stunning in person, never got time to actually go into the dealership and look around it though. Probably for the best I doubt they wanted a scruffy guy in a decade old Fiat looking around with no intent to buy...
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:32 |

Well, i thougt there's a street version of GT40 right? Maybe that's one of them.

![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:34 |

I went to Monterey this year, so I got to see a ton of rare cars. Many one offs and one-of-two cars, like this BMW 700RS. This is one of two and the only one not owned by BMW.
Ive also seen a GM EV1 on the road before, swear to god. No sr20 because it was before camera phones were a thing, plus i was driving. It was around 2004
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:36 |

Maaaan Daytona Cbra is awesome!
I never saw a standard cobra, let alone a daytona. And despite there's 3 P1 in my town i never saw one. The rarest i ever seen on the street was a 911 Sport Classic.

Probably either this 1929 Talbot
Or this 1927 Austin 7 Brooklands Supercharged, which belongs to my friends dad, I even got a ride in it
I think they made like 11 of them

I've seen an MC12 too in dubai! Pretty amazing looking thing.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:41 |

Another one I'm not sure about is a black F50. I didn't know much about every Ferrari then, but it had a flat engine cover and a high wing. They only made 4 black F50s, two in the US.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:42 |

yeah in person that is a beast. Next to it in the display was a BMW with sidecar in Afrika Korps markings.

Two sightings within a month of each other. First - glanced out the window of a project I was on, W. 30th Street, and there was a Ferrari F40 on a flatbed, headed east. About a month later, I heard what Clarkson described as a sound "like God's plumbing" and saw a Veyron tearing up 6th Avenue.
A few years later I saw a Fisker Karma on Madison Avenue - managed to snap a photo, but too blurry.

ran across a late 50's/early 60's Opel wagon estate in a car park once. apparently only one of two left on UK roads at the time according to the sign in the rear window (this was about a decade ago when I was an ignorant child so I cant remember exact details lol).
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:51 |

Actually, upon further reading I'm not sure this is an original or not. There is much debate whether it is considered a real GT40 or not. It sold in Barrett Jackson for nearly 400K.
Many say it is a real GT40 MK V, but it has no race history so it won't be worth as much. If you think about it, this would be one of the better GT40's to own. It's (Probably) a real one that has no race history, meaning you can drive and not have to worry about destroying a piece of history.

do museums count? if so everything at this place . they have a one of two Ferrari .

Who?
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:55 |

I have seen a bunch vintage racing Ferrari's, Alfa's, and Maserati's at various Lime Rock events and I guess those are pretty rare. On the road nothing really jumps out except a 'Cuda convertible I've seen in my area, my guess is that it is not original. I see a Land Rover Defender regularly too (not sure how rare that is in the USA) I also see a F430 Scuderia every so often.
I have to say I'm very fortunate where I live because there are a lot of nice cars around.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:56 |

The picture in my comment above not from the most flattering angle.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 17:58 |

Probably a 1974 Fascination. One of only five ever built.
Or the Cord E-1 prototype limousine. The only one in existence.
Or a Stout Scarab. Also one of five.
Can't think of what others right now.

I see plenty of them in person around here and it's the chrome headlight surround with the small headlight in it. Looks like it's wearing chrome glasses, whereas the pre-facelift is a pretty good looking car.
![]() 12/21/2014 at 18:00 |

Silver McLaren F1 driving over the Mt. Hood pass. I was driving so I wasn't able to get a picture of it. Also a Koenigsegg CCR while I was in Norway a few years back.

There is a gentleman who lives maybe a mile from us who has in his garage (among other things) an original Ford GT40 that raced in LeMans and won Best Postwar Race Car at Pebble Beach. Here it is:
And yes, the headlight on the left is what you think it is. And yes, it is also real.

Rarest Production car 1948 Hudson

Probably a Ferrari 575 Superamerica
Just like this:

Outside of a museum (because I don't think shows and museums count, because I've seen plenty of one-offs and concepts at those and you can't get rarer than one-off) I'd say a Maybach 62. Over 7 years, Maybach sold a little over 1000 units total of both 57 and 62.

I have seen several one offs but I'm very sure that rare isn't the correct word for a thing that's the only one in the world. But that would mean that lowest number of rare cars is two.
Quickly I can only think three car that have only two examples: Fiat S76, 2011 Ferrari 599 with manual box and 2012 Ferrari California with manual box. I haven't seen any of these but if I will continue touring car event I will eventually see the S76.
So far the lowest that I'm sure of is Bugatti Royale with the production number of 6.

I'm living in the wrong place, that's beautiful!
In that same museum with the picture of the GT40, there were several Cobra's. I'm confident at least one was real. The guy (Sam Pack) had 437 cars at one point (Just sold 130 of them). I can't imagine what else he has, I saw not even a quarter of his cars.

I saw the Ferrari Breadvan running at full tilt around No Problem Raceway Park for the Ferrari French Quarter Classic in 200...4? Also saw a Maserati MC12 (was that the name?) at the same event. That event was incredible before Katrina. The Ferrari owners in Houston used to have a huge turn out. Saw Enzos, 512TRs, 333SP, Miura, old Lolas, 330 TR. All kinds of good shit.

Depends. We talking on the in general or just on the road?
If the former: Bunch of 917s, an Alfa 33 Longtail, some 1920s Bugattis, some stuff from the 19th Century no one bothered to remember, Mercedes-Benz W25 (in action), W125, W196 and W196R, Sauber Mercedes C9, some 956s and a 962, 356 Carrera Abarth GTL something something, 356 2000 Carrera, Lancia Ardea S3 (first production car w/ 5MT, how bout that?) Lancia Appia Fourgoncino Delivery Van, Aurelia Convertible, 1938 Volkswagen Type-1 pre-production prototype, 1947 Volkswagen Streamliner prototype thing and many many more.
If the latter: Daihatsu Wildcat, Cadillac BLS Wagon, unmodified Nissan 200SX AND 180SX, what appeared to be a '49 Chevy Fleetline.
